Borrow a Bell Program

What is it?

Our trail bell program provides stations “bell boxes”  throughout Cache Valley where trail users can borrow a bell while they are out visiting local trails.

Why bells and bell boxes?

Bells are meant to help users communicate on trails! By wearing a bell, you can help alert other users (and wildlife!) of your presence on the trail. Because the sound of the bells carries, this helps other users hear one another in areas where visibility is limited, allowing everyone ample time to yield when encountering other users. Because users on bikes can travel at higher speeds, this noise can help prevent collisions or close calls when bikers attach a bell to their bike when riding.

How do you use them?

Simply remove a bell from the box, use the attached velcro strap to connect it to your bike, a pack, or a water bottle, and hit the trail! When you get back to the box, reverse those steps and return the bell to the box. If you forget to return the bell, no worries! Just bring it back the next time you use the trail!

Who can use them?

Anyone!

When can I use them?

The bell boxes are stocked from about mid-April (or whenever the trails dry out/are ridable) until about mid-November. Over the winter, the bells “hibernate”!
